Sustainability

You and we love the magnificent wild mountain landscape of the Arlberg. Preserving nature is our concern, and you also do it by choosing our chalet. Thank you for that!

For this reason, we have chosen many ecological natural materials and make sustainability our goal.

The comfortably warm spaces of our chalet are heated with three heat pumps. From an ecological point of view, the heat pump is attractive because it operates "cleanly". Unlike oil or gas heaters, there is no combustion of fossil fuels. The heat energy is provided by the environment.

This is one of the two major differences. While natural gas and heating oil are only available in limited quantities on our planet, geothermal energy is unlimited. Surprisingly, this works perfectly even at our altitude.

The second difference is the absence of combustion. Combustion of fossil fuels produces exhaust gases containing various pollutants as well as climate-damaging CO2. In contrast, the operation of a heat pump does not involve combustion, which inevitably results in a much better carbon footprint.

For the ecological benefit, it is of great importance where the electricity comes from. In our case, it is sourced from the nearby hydroelectric power plant, making it also renewable.

In the search for sustainability, waste separation is one of the most fundamental and effective measures we can take.

Waste separation - Small deeds done are better than great deeds planned.

Many people in many small places, doing many small things, can have a big impact. The simple act of sorting our waste into different categories may seem insignificant, but it plays a crucial role in protecting our environment, conserving resources, and promoting a circular economy. Thank you for supporting us in this endeavor.

For waste separation, we have provided different containers for the waste materials. Such as the organic waste bin for organic waste (located in the garbage shed), recyclable materials (paper, plastic, glass, and cardboard in the ski cellar), and non-recyclable materials (general waste in the garbage shed).

In Austria, they are particularly strict here, and if the waste is not separated, we run the risk that the unseparated waste will not be collected.

But the effort is worth it: this reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and incineration plants, which are significant sources of greenhouse gases such as methane and carbon dioxide. By keeping recyclable materials out of these waste management systems, we can significantly reduce our CO2 footprint and mitigate climate change.

Many items that we dispose of daily are made from finite natural resources. Recycling materials such as paper, plastic, and metals conserves these resources, reduces the need for raw material extraction, and decreases the environmental damage caused by mining and deforestation.

St. Anton and its mountain region should remain so beautiful for a long time!
